Fun, Run, Ride, Slide

What a great event at Onekawa School in Week 8.  The children arrived with their scooters, in their togs, ready to have fun.  Here are just a few pictures of some of our Room 1 children having a great time.

Stella is loving the soapy slide!

Waiting patiently to start.

Zaine loved every part of the event.

Its a very slippery business!

Go Coral - you were really going for it!

Discovery Time

We love Discovery Time on Friday mornings.  This our chance to invent, create, investigate, explore and have fun with lots of different things.  The teachers love it too.  We talk a lot about what we are creating or doing.  We explore all the different classrooms and take bits from one and take it to the next, and we end up with fabulous creations.  Dress ups is a favourite time for lots of us.  Lots of the girls love dressing up in Mrs Woods' wedding dress and her bridesmaid's dress too. There are always activities for us to do inside and outside - so many choices!!

CRICKET WORLD CUP
ROOM 1 AND ROOM 5 MAKE CRICKET SHIRTS!

Room 5 and 1 got together and worked on making Cricket Shirts for the children from Room 1.  Room 5 children were responsible for getting the ideas from the Year 2, Room 1 children, drawing them on their design plan, and ensuring that the original design ended up on the finished shirt.  Everyone was on task and loved the whole project.  Room 1 children wrote some stories too.  Here are some pictures and stories...

My buddy’s name is a country’s name, it is Paris.  She was so nice.  I liked the way she asked me what patterns I wanted on my T-shirt. I felt nervous at the start but at the end I felt awesome.  Paris really helped me and gave me heaps of ideas.  She told me what countries there were.  I had to show her how to draw swirls because she hasn’t done them in a long time.  The T-shirts could actually fit us!
There were lots of patterns on my T-shirt.  Our buddies had to measure us so that they know how much they needed to cut.  It felt a bit funny.  Today our buddies are dyeing them.  Tomorrow they are coming back to our classroom to finish our T-shirts.  by Lily

I am very nervous.  My buddy is coming from Room 5.  When he came into the classroom he had a bit of paper in his hand.  He made a shirt and he is a good drawer.  My name will be there on the back of my t-shirt.  He put a trophy on my T-shirt.  Room 5 are going to paint it today.  They are coming back on Friday to colour it in.  by Rylee
Rylee is very happy with his shirt.  What a great team Hawaiki and Rylee made.

I was excited when I saw our buddies.  I forgot my buddy’s name but I will ask him tomorrow.  We designed a cricket shirt.  It had kiwis on it.  I had my name on the back.  I enjoyed making a T-shirt with my buddy.

The whole team celebrating our success!

ART DECO AND THE STEAM TRAIN TO HASTINGS

Here are some photos of our trip to Hastings on the Steam Train and then our time at Cornwall Park.  We all got dressed up in our Art Deco costumes.  We had a great morning in Hastings exploring the park, having our morning tea and lunch, playing games and playing on the playground.

We are on our way. For some of us it was our first trip on a train!
Three beautiful Art Deco girls
And three more gorgeous girls!
These two sisters were very excited to be on the train!
Myles really looked cute in his Art Deco clothes.

We were starving when we arrived - food!
We really did try to count the ducks!

More eating! Lunch this time.

Room 1, plus three extras! We had a great time exploring Cornwall Park.
OUR CLASSROOM ENVIRONMENT

Here is just one of our three doors!  They all have the super-hero theme.

The Room 1 Superheros are flying through the air over the city.  But not before we made up our classroom super powers to ensure that Room 1 zooms through the year like super hero's can.

I wonder how many people guessed who was who in these pictures...

We love Maths in Room 1 and we love the space we have.  Can you see our cool Swiss Balls.  These are great if you are a wriggly learner!

Welcome to Room 1's Blog

We are a fantastic bunch of learners who love coming to school.  We are looking forward to a fabulous year with our two teachers - Mrs Woods and Mrs Robin.  We are lucky to have Mrs Robin in Room 1 every Tuesday and on other days too.
